Midwest Regional League Action
09/17/2006 -- The Chicago Magic U17 Girls scored five times in two games to win both their games this weekend. The first victory was a 2-1 win over the Sockers FC and the second win was a 3-0 win over CRSA. The girls have a 3-0-1 record heading into an all important match up this weekend against MWRL leader Michigan Hawks.
U15 Girls Come up Just Short at Gold Cup
09/07/2006 -- The Chicago Magic U15 Girls reached the finals at the National Soccer Ranking Gold Cup which was held in Naperville, Illinois. The girls faced Eclipse and lost 1-0 in the championship match.
U-17 MNT National Friendlies Include Magic
09/06/2006 -- The U.S. Under-17 '90 Men's National Team head coach John Hackworth included two Magic players on his roster for the National Team Friendlies, giving him 20 players to choose from over the four-day, three-match event. Brendan King and Josh Lambo along with the remainder of the squad will compete against the U-17 squads of Brazil, Mexico and Portugal. The tournament is structured in a six-game round-robin format with two games a day on Sept. 7, 8 and 10.
Magic U14 Take Tournament Championship
08/21/2007 -- The U14 boy's team brought home the championship trophy from the FC Milwaukee tournament over this past weekend. On their way to the championship, the boys beat Campton United. To win the championship the boys beat FC United.
Magic U15 Team in Spain
08/15/2007 -- The U15 boy's team came back from Spain with a 2-2-2 record. The boys faced stiff competition by playing 1989 and 1988's on the trip. "This was a great trip," said Andrew Menendez, "having my dad and brother with me made for quite an experience." Besides playing in the six friendly matches the boys and their parents took in the sites of Madrid, Barcelona, the mountain regions of Seva and along the Mediterranean at Lloret.
Magic to Send Six Teams to SYL Nationals
08/14/2006 -- The Chicago Magic haved earned six spots to the SYL North American Finals. The tournament will be hosted in Tampa, Florida beginning Friday, November 17 and continuing through Tuesday, November 21. The tournament will host 140 teams from across North America. Participating for the Magic are the U15 and U16 Girls and the U13, U14, U15 and U17 Boys teams.
CHICAGO MAGIC TEAM CAMP 2006
08/14/2006 -- The Chicago Magic staff would like to thank all the players that participated in the Chicago Magic Team Camp 06'. In all we had over 90 participants both boys and girls ranging in age from U-7 to U-14. The camp consisted of 5 days of training in preparation for their upcoming Fall Season. The camp concluded with skill test award winners of which several Club Records were broken from prior years. Good Luck to all teams as they enter their Fall Season and a special thanks to Adidas, Gatorade and Action Sports for all the support they offer through the year.
Magic U14 Boys Take 2nd at US Club Nationals
07/31/2006 -- The Magic 91/92 Boys team won the US Club National title in 2005 and were looking to retain their crown. The U14 boys faced the ISC Strikers Silver Elite team in the Championship match. The game ended with ISC holding the trophy in a 1-0 score. Congratulations to the Boys on their second place finish!
U18 Boys Finalist at USYS Nationals
07/30/2006 -- In pool play, the Magic 87/88 Boys team beat the Dallas Texans, the favorite to win the tournament, 3-1. Their next opponent was FC Delco whom they beat 2-0. In their final match, played in oppresive heat, the Magic team tied the Bandeleros 1-1. The final was once again a match up of the Magic 87/88 and the Dallas Texans. The teams played to a 0-0 during regulation and overtime play. The Magic side lost in kicks from the spot to finish second in the tournament. Congratulations to Coach Hannan and the Boys!
Gold Awarded at Nationals
07/30/2006 -- Congratulations to two Magic players who received high honors at USYS Nationals. Chris Schuler received the Golden Boot Award for being the Outstanding Player in the U18 tournament, while Pat Rickman won the Golden Glove for Outstanding Goalkeeper play in the U18 tournament.
1992 Boys National Team Camp
07/29/2006 -- The U.S. Under-15 Boys' National Team will hold a weeklong training camp from July 30-Aug. 5 in Somerset, New Jersey. Chicago Magic Coach Mike Matkovich along with three others will assist Jim Barlow in conducting scrimmages for the 50 players involved. Also attending the camp is Magic's own Jacob Bushue. The U-15s will be given instruction by the coaching staff and will also be evaluated as a number of players could possibly move into U.S. Soccer's U-17 Residency Program next year.
Magic U14 Boys and U17 Boys at US Club Nationals
07/28/2006 -- The Magic 91/92 Boys team is preparing to defend its US Club National Championship, having won it in 2005. At the same time the Magic 88/89 Boys team is looking to become the Magic's first three time US Club National Championship team, having won titles as U14's & U15's. Along with its two Super Y League crowns, the U17 boys are seeking their, and our clubs, record fifth National Championship. This is in addition to its five IYSA State Cups (U13-U17) and one USYSA Regional Cup (U15). The teams will contend their title on July 28-31 in North Carolina. National championship scores will be updated daily by US Club staff.
Magic U16 Girls Finalist at US Club Nationals
07/25/2006 -- The Magic 89/90 Girls team saw themselves in the Championship match with pool play scores of 2-1, 3-0, and 2-0. In the championship match the girls went down 1-0 but were able to tie the score with an assist from Hannah Peterson and a goal from Tory Burchett within the last 7 minutes of play. The girls battled valiantly taking the match to penalty kicks. Congratulations to the girls and Coach Fonfara for finishing 2nd in this National tournament.
U20 Men's National Team Includes Magic Player
07/25/2006 -- U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team head coach Thomas Rongen has released the 18-player roster he will take to Northern Ireland to compete in the 2006 Milk Cup. Included in the squad is former Chicago Magic player, Brad Ring. The U.S. will leave for the tournament on Thursday, July 27 and have a few days of training before facing Wales on Monday, July 31. The U.S. will then go up against Denmark on Wednesday, Aug. 2, and finish the tournament with a placement match on Friday, Aug. 4.
Brendan King Inivited to Residency
07/24/2006 -- The U.S. Under-17 '90 Men's National Team has invited Brendan King to join the full-time Residency Program this fall. The U.S. Under-17 is headed by coach John Hackworth. Players participating in the Residency Program are eligible for the FIFA U-17 World Cup next year in South Korea. Brendan King joins a long list of Magic Alumni asked to Residency including current Resident Josh Lambo.
Magic U15 Boys and U18 Boys at USYS Nationals
07/23/2006 -- The Magic 90/91 Boys team is again vying for the USYS National Championship. After playing in last years finals match, losing on penalty kicks; this year they are looking to go one step further and earn the Magic its third USYS National crown. The U15 boys have three IYSA State Cup championships and Regional titles (U13-U15) on their resume. They are the first Magic team to win three consecutive USYS Regional championships.
The Magic 87/88 Boys team is also preparing for the USYSA Nationals. The U18 boys are looking to cap off their youth soccer careers with the ultimate trophy. After winning every IYSA State Cup championship (U13-U18), four Regional Cups (U13-U14-U16-U18) and two Super Y-League National crowns (U16-U17), the U18's are looking forward to another attempt at the Nationals. Magic U16 Girls at US Club Nationals
07/22/2006 -- The Magic 89/90 Girls team qualified for the US Club National Championships, July 23-28th in North Carolina, by winning the Regionals in Rockford. The U16 girls are vying to become the first Magic girls team to win a National title in two different youth associations, following up on their Super Y League crown from early this year. The U16 girls also have won five IYSA State Cups (U12-U16). National championship scores will be updated daily by US Club staff.
