03/30/2006 -- MLS and Gatorade are extremely excited to announce the publication of MLS Edge; a newsletter designed and published exclusively for Gatorade Elite Soccer Clubs. The MLS Edge Newsletter has exclusive content about upcoming MLS games/events/interviews, a MLS player feature, GSSI tip, and Gatorade Elite Soccer Club info. The first edition features the Chicago Magic Soccer Club as the Number One Team in the Nation.
Metro FC Showcase Continues Pre-season Activities
03/27/2006 -- All Magic teams participating this last weekend did very well in their first outdoor action. The Magic U15 and U18 finished atop their World Cup brackets with 3-0 records. Not to be outdone, the U16, U17 and U17II sides all finished in first place with identical 2-0-1 records. Both U14 Magic sides played in U15 Championship brackets with the U14 side finishing second with a 1-0-2 record while the U14II side finishing third in a tie-breaker with a 1-1-1 finish.
Javanon Cup Begins the Tournament Season
03/19/2006 -- Tournament action began with the Chicago Magic U13, U14I and U14II sides competing at the Javanon Cup in Louisville, Kentucky. The Chicago Magic U14's sides both advanced to the finals thus being named Co-Champions. Our Chicago Magic U13 side lost to the Indy Dynamo in the championship match 1-0.
Three Magic Players to Participate in U20 National Camp
03/07/2006 -- The Magic continue to have players recognized at the National level. Eric Lichaj, Ofori Sarkodie and Matthew Tutich have been named as part of the 23 players to the first camp of 2006, which will take place from March 7-13 in Sunrise, Florida. This event begins preparations for qualification to the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Coach Matkovich and Hannan Meet with National Team Coaches
03/06/2006 -- The second meeting between top club coaches and ODP youth national staff will take place Wednesday, March 8 through Saturday, March 11th.Mike Matkovich and John Hannan will represent the Chicago Magic Soccer Club. While in Bradenton, the coaches will watch the U17 and 18 National teams compete, coordinate the year's schedule and have daily discussions about soccer in the USA with National team coaches and staff.

Jesse Ortiz going to the Home Depot Center
02/23/2006 -- The 1991 ODP National camp will take place February 25th to March 4th at the Home Depot Center. Participating in the event is Jesse Ortiz, camp participant and Michael Matkovich, camp coach.
Argentinean Five Show Well
02/22/2006 - The Region II 1990's excelled in tournament play. Andrew Menendez, Ryan Stokes, Milan Tica, Tim Zimmer and Josh Lambo (Residency) joined players from the US Youth Soccer Boys 1990 Regional Teams in a series of friendly matches with teams from the top clubs in Argentina. Brandon King was not able to participate due to injury. The Region II team went 3-1-0.
Magic Family Member Will be Missed
02/18/2006 -- The Chicago Magic family would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family of Alex Dombrowski. Alex recently passed away at the age of 15 years old. Alex had been a member of the Magic family for many years and will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his mother and father, Jan and Craig, and with all of their family and relatives.
USMNT Prepares to Face Guatemala with Brad Guzan in Goal!
02/18/2006 -- Brad Guzan former Chicago Magic standout, current MLS pro and National team member will be the first player from the Magic to earn a national cap for the Men's National Team. This match is key in World Cup preparation. The side will play Carlos Ruiz and Guatemala. Kickoff for the first-ever cap of a Magic player is set for 1 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 this Sunday, February 19th.
Chicago Magic Girls Selected to SYL Select Teams
02/17/2006 -- The USL Super Y-League concluded another highly successful 2006 Olympic Development Program National Camp for U13 and U14 girl's age groups in Cocoa, FL. The top players from the Super Y-League 2005 season in each of the divisions coast-to-coast participated in four days of extensive training, matches, and player-education seminars. The Super Y-League ODP Select teams were made up of a collection of the best players at the camp. Congrats to Chicago Magic players: Shayla Mutz and Lisa Thomas!
FIVE Chicago Magic Players Selected for Region II ODP Team in Argentina
02/10/2005 -- Andrew Menendez, Ryan Stokes, Milan Tica, Tim Zimmer and Josh Lambo (Residency) will join players from the US Youth Soccer Boys 1990 Regional Teams today, to participate in a series of friendly matches with teams from the top clubs in Argentina. The annual event, known as the US Youth Soccer ODP Boys International Festival, features teams from each of the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys Regional Teams as well as eight Argentinean clubs. While in Argentina each of the US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Regional teams will play four of the eight Argentinean teams.

Prestigious Blue Chip Tournament Accepts U17 Boys and U16 Girls
02/08/2006 -- The Adidas Blue Chip Showcase Tournament, entering its fourteenth year for men, and seventh year for women, has grown into one of the truly exclusive showcases of U-17 talent. The showcase attracts over three hundred college coaches from throughout the country.
Chicago Magic Players Scouted by US National Team Staff
01/31/2006 -- The U.S. Under-17 '90 Men's National Team was divided into two squads during this past weekend at the Super Y-League ODP National Camp, with both squads facing players from the Chicago Magic. Playing in the first match was Tom Serratore and Harrison Petts. Harrison scored while Tom made some incredible saves during the match. The second match featured Kevin Bick and Jesse Ortiz with both players having solid showings. The two different Super Y-League ODP National Camp Select Teams, were made up of a collection of the best players at the camp.
Five Magic Teams Invited to Dallas Cup XXVII
1/23/2006 -- The most competitive international youth soccer tournament in North America has invited Magic boys teams in the following age groups: U14, U15, U16, U17 and U19. The Dallas Cup is by invitation only and teams are selected for invitation based on their competitive performance. In past years, teams and referees have traveled to Dallas from ninety-eight countries and six continents. Our boys will share the excitement of world class competition this April.
Magic Wins Big Match!
1/22/2006 -- The CMSC 17/18 combo team defeated Schwaben to close out the first indoor session at the Odeum. The championship match went 6-3 in favor of the good guys. Schwaben, a top Chicago area amateur team, plays in the Metro League at the Odeum.
Winter Classic Girls Championship Results
1/21/2006 -- Over ten college coaches were in attendance during this year's Girls College Showcase. The Showcase is traditionally held in conjunction with our Winter Indoor Classic. In championship play the Chicago Magic U12's defeated the Chicago Magic U11's; the Chicago Magic U16's won the U19 division, with the Chicago Magic U14's winning the wild card over the Chicago Magic u15's by a goal differential tie breaker.
Winter Classic Boys Championship Results
1/21/2006 -- Over thirty college coaches were in attendance during this year's College Showcase. The Showcase is traditionally held in conjunction with our Winter Indoor Classic. Players have already begun receiving inquiries from the collegiate coaches in attendance. In championship play the Chicago Magic U9's defeated Hoosiers FC 5-2; the Chicago Magic U12's defeated JGSA, 6-3; and the Chicago Magic U13's defeated the Downers Grove Roadrunners, 5-4.
MLS SuperDraft is MAGIC!!
1/20/2006 -- Columbus Crew head coach Sigi Schmid selected Chicago Magic's Jed Zayner as his first pick of the second round (13th overall). Jed Zayner, a semifinalist for the Hermann trophy, made the move to MLS after three years with the University of Indiana, during which he earned third team All-American (2005) and All-Big Ten (2004, 2005) honors.
The "Magical" celebration continued when Bob Gansler head coach of the Kansas City Wizards plugged a roster hole during the 2007 MLS SuperDraft with Chicago Magic's Matt Groenwald (St. John's). Groenwald is a three-time All-Big East selection and was a M.A.C. Hermann Trophy semifinalist in the last two years running. Groenwald, 22, finished his career with 15 goals and 22 assists, including a team-leading 17 points in 2005.
2006 Super Y-League ODP 15, 16, 17 Boys Select Teams Announced
01/18/2006 -- This past weekend, the USL Super Y-League concluded a highly successful 2006 Olympic Development Program National Camp for U15, U16 and U17 Boys in Cocoa, FL. The top players from the Super Y-League 2005 season in each of the divisions coast-to-coast participated in four days of extensive training, matches, and player-education seminars. Top players were recognized and selected to the USL Super Y-League ODP Select Team. These teams consist of the top players selected by the ODP Technical Staff and US Soccer National Staff based on their performance at the ODP National Camp. These players will be recommended to US Soccer Youth National Team Staff, and may be involved in future domestic and international events. Named to these teams are the following Chicago Magic players: Cody Stanley - U16, Kyle Knotek - U17, and Kyle Russell - U17.
Zayner Signed to Generation Adidas
01/15/2006 -- Indiana University defender Jed Zayner, who led a defense that recorded 13 shutouts in 22 games, was selected as a third-team All-American. Additionally, Jed was signed to Major League Soccer's youth player development program named Generation Adidas. The youth players who join MLS as part of the Generation Adidas program receive unprecedented opportunities to develop their game and hone their skills at the professional level in Major League Soccer. In addition to training and playing on a weekly basis with one of Major League Soccer's 12 professional clubs, Generation adidas players will also receive educational grants to further their college education.
Disney Showcase
1/05/2006 - Our 16Boys, 17Boys, 18Boys, 15Girls, and 16Girls were exposed to numerous college coaches at this years event. The 17 and 18 Boys controlled their own destiny going into their final games. The 18 Boys lost to the eventual champions, the Concorde Fire. Also featured at the Disney Showcase were the USYS 89's Region II team that included Raphael Martinez, Aaron Nichols, Andrew Duran. The boys played against the national teams from Japan , France , and Spain . Josh Lambo of the National U17 90's also was highlighted in team play at Disney.
ODP USYS Camp
1/03/2006 - Magic players are involved in many levels with the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Camps. The Chicago Magic encourages participation in all ODP programs.
National Team camps are being held at Guadalajara and at the HDC. 92's - Perry Kitchen and Jacob Bushue will be going to Guadalajara . 91's - Jesse Ortiz was busy with the Nike friendlies and soon at the HDC. 90's - Josh Lambo is in residency. 89's - Raphael Martinez and Andrew Duran will also be going to the HDC. 88's - Peri Pantazopoulos and Eric Lichaj will also be at the HDC in conjunction with the MLS Combine.
Regional Team camps were at Austin , TX , Evansville , IN and at the Disney Showcase. 92's - Zach Dobey, Miguel Acosta, Jacob Bushue, Perry Kitchen, Dylan Mares and 91's - Jesse Ortiz went to Austin . 90's - Brendan King, Keith Mach, Andrew Menendez, Milan Tica, Tim Zimmer attended camp in Evansville. Tica, King and Zimmer also have been invited to travel to Argentina . 89' s - Raphael Martinez, Aaron Nichols, Andrew Duran went to the Disney Showcase. And finally, Coach Matko will lead the 88's.
Ring out the Old and Ring in the New!!
01/01/2006 -- There has never been a more exciting time than this to be involved with the Magic. Chicago Magic SC teams have won many national, regional and state championships. They have been named the #1 program by both Soccer America and the SYL. Guzan and Clark have just recently been called into the full men's national camp. Grabavoy gains the double. Kirk is drafted into the MLS. Lambo is invited to residency. Numerous players have achieved success in ODP. High School Seniors are selecting their college of choice. Thirty-eight fields have been graded and seeded at our new tournament complex in Merrillville, IN. The list goes on and on. While this in itself may be impressive, it goes far beyond winning soccer games. The club is thankful for their players, parents, coaches and sponsors. May health, happiness and good times.greet each of you every day of the New Year.
