Magic Alum Mike Matkovich Named Head Coach of U18 Men's National Team

12/17/2008 -- U.S. Soccer has announced that Magic Alum, Mike Matkovich has been named head coach of the U18 Men's National Team. Matkovich, while serving as Director of Soccer for the Magic, earned his National "A" Coaching License and was named National Coach of the Year by the NSCAA in 2000. Coach Matko will be taking the reins of a program that was created to aid in the transition for younger players between the U17 Men's National Team and the U20 side. "This is a great opportunity." said Coach Matkovich, "My experience with the Magic's staff, players and parents will never be forgotten."

Final 4 Showcase Recap

12/15/2008 -- Just coming off their SYL win in Tampa the U-17 girls traveled to Raleigh NC for the CASL Showcase in conjunction with the NCAA Final 4 tournament. With the cold and frost the U-17s went 0-2-1 and had over 100 collage coaches come out to see them play. The Girls also were given tickets to the NCAA Final 4 game where they were able to see Chicago Magic U-19 player Whitney Sharp play for UCLA . Unfortunately UCLA lost 1-0 to UNC who ended up winning it all.

All-Tournament Teams Have Magic!

12/14/2008 -- United Soccer Leagues announced today the Boys and Girls All-Tournament Teams following the 10th Annual North American Finals, held November 21 through November 25 in Tampa , Florida . Selections were based off the nominations of opposing coaches made throughout tournament play. Congratulations to the following Magic players: (13 boys) Luis Arellamo, (14 boys) Lenny Roa, (14 girls) Corinne Harris, (16 girls) Christina Reed, Victoria Dunn, and Shayla Mutz.

Women's College Soccer has Magic

12/10/2008 - Several announcements occur this time of year and women's college soccer is no different. Our congratulations go out to the following four Magic Alums: Vicki Traven ( Toledo ) - MAC Freshman of the Year, MAC All-Freshman Team; Casey Short ( Florida State ) - ACC All- Freshman Team; Kelly Butler ( Colorado ) - Big 12 All-Newcomer Team; and Nora Potempa ( Western Illinois ) - Summit League All-Newcomer Team.

Monaco Magic Teams Showcase Their Talents

12/09/2008 -- U.S. Soccer's Development Academy Winter Showcase came to a close at Lancaster Soccer Center in Lancaster , California this past weekend and the Chicago Magic AS Monaco Academy teams left with an overall 4-1-1 record. "This (Magic Monaco) is great." said Magic newcomer Aaron Horton , "I came here expecting a great environment and that's exactly what the coaches and players showed me this weekend." The Winter Showcase was a foretaste of the Magic's Academy program and its potential for the upcoming year. "I am proud of the boys." said head Coach Todd Bailey, "I told them that in the long run focusing on playing good soccer is better than seeking a result."

Magic's Lichaj a Regular in Aston Villa Reserve Lineup

11/30/2008 -- Eric Lichaj got to Aston Villa when he inked a two-year deal plus options in July 2007. The U.S. U-20 international was snapped up during Villa's preseason tour of the U.S. that summer, even though he had a foot injury. He impressed the club and its scouts during his time with the Chicago Magic. "I've been liking it here,'' Lichaj said, "The only thing is that I don't get to see my family, which takes a little while to get used to. Other than that everything is going really well soccer-wise. I came in injured and wasn't too happy the first year, but so far from preseason until now I've been very happy with how I'm progressing.''

SWEET SIXTEEN!

11/25/2008 -- The Chicago Magic 91/92 Girls needed one goal to bring home the Magic's 16 th National Championship and they got it! The lone goal of the match came with seconds remaining in the first half of overtime. After the Magic won a corner kick, Janie Tedesco knocked a ball into the box. The ensuring scramble that followed came to the feet of Victoria Dunn, who slipped a shot under the Real So Cal goalkeeper for the game-winner. "Shayla Mutz, a forward, had a real strong week for us," added Coach Scott Fonfara. "And of course, Victoria Dunn, she is the little engine in the middle that makes us go. She is the player we could not afford to be without. Her work rate is fantastic and that is one of those things you cannot teach."

USSDA Season Begins

11/18/2008 -- U.S. Soccer's Development Academy season began for the Chicago Magic AS Monaco teams this past weekend. After this weekend's play both Magic teams sit atop their group standings. The Monaco Magic teams went a combined 2-1-1. Both sides played Vardar and Derby County Wolves from Michigan .

SYL Nationals around the Corner

11/17/2008 -- United Soccer Leagues will soon begin the Super Y-League's 10th Anniversary North American Finals. The Chicago Magic will have five teams at the National Finals in Tampa Florida including the U13, U14, U15 boys and the U14 and U16 girls. Good luck to the players as they all participate in the final chase for the National Crown!

2008 id2 has Magic at Regional Training

11/16/2008 -- Some of the best youth soccer players in the country descended upon the northern Dallas suburb of Frisco , Texas for a very important soccer camp. The Chicago Magic Soccer Club Girls program was represented by Ali Farkos at this US Club id2 Regional Training Camp . The Camp started on November 13 th and ended on November 16 th .

Winter Indoor Classic Registrations Now Accepted!

11/15/2008 -- The Chicago Magic Soccer Club has announced their Winter Indoor Classic. The tournament will take place at the Hallmark Sports Club in Frankfort , Illinois from January 17 through the 19 th . Join the Chicago & Indiana Magic along with over 100 other teams from around the Midwest. Come play against the number one club in the nation as ranked by the Super Y League.

Fifteen Players to Represent Magic at SYL ODP Camps

11/12/2008 -- United Soccer Leagues announced their selections for the 2008/09 Super Y-League ODP National Camps. The lists identify the top 2% of players in the Super Y-League.The Chicago Magic Soccer Club will be represented on the boy's side with eleven players and on the girl's side with four players. The list will be promoted to over 500 colleges as well as to the USSF National Staff. Congratulations to all!

High Praise for Magic's Guzan after UEFA Cup Win

11/07/2008 -- Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill sang the praise of American goalkeeper Brad Guzan after the Chicago Magic alum's stellar performance in Aston Villa's 1-0 UEFA Cup win over Slavia Prague this past Thursday. "I think he's a great goalkeeper in the making and I'm delighted he got his work permit, and I think he's following in a long line of great American goalkeepers,'' O'Neill said.

11/04/2008 -- The Chicago Magic Soccer Club U15 and U17 girl's teams headed down south to the Edwardsville, Illinois area this past weekend. The weather was great and so was the girls play. Both teams reached the championship finals. The U15 girls ended their quest with a 2-1 loss to St. Louis Scott Gallagher. The U17 girls also went to the finals. Their outcome was decided on penalty kicks in the 11 th round, losing to St. Louis Scott Gallagher.

Magic Ranked Number ONE!!!!!

10/23/2008 -- The Super Y-League announced their First "Eleven" Club rankings for the 2008 regular season, recognizing the league's top clubs on a competitive and administrative basis. The Chicago Magic Soccer Club was named the number one club in the nation. The release of the list precedes the 10th Annual Super Y-League North American Finals, where five Chicago Magic teams will be competing for a national title.

5 Magic Teams Headed to Tampa for National Finals!

10/23/2008 --The Chicago Magic will have five teams at the National Finals in Tampa Florida including the U13, U14, U15 boys and the U14 and U16 girls. The U13 boys had one of the most dominating regular seasons in Super Y-League history as they swept through the Midwest Division with a record of 10-0-0. The Magic drubbed their opponents to the tone of 50-3 and won every game by at least two goals. Chicago won their first six matches of the season by a combined total of 35-0.

Chicago Magic U15 Girls Earn MWRL Premier Division Honors

10/22/2008 - The Chicago Magic 93/94 Girls (U15s) took the top spot this fall in the Midwest Regional League standings. The girls went 6-0-1 and scored 30 goals while only allowing 3. With this record the CMSC U15 girls will now compete in the Midwest Regional League Premier division. Congratulations to the girls and Coach Scott Fonfara on a job well done!

WAGS Recap

10/19/2008 -- The U-17 Girls participated in the 33rd Annual Rael Vodicka Memorial WAGS Tournament , held over Columbus Day weekend every year. The girls had a great showing coming in 2nd in their group going 2-1-0. College coaches were present and watched the girls compete: Georgetown , Syracuse , University of Wisconsin - Madison , Lehigh, Boston University to name a few. The Girls had a great time and also went to see the USMNT beat Cuba in World Cup qualifying action.

Midwest Wings Fall Classic Recap

10/18/2008 -- The U8, U9, U10 boy's teams and the U10 girls all participated in this annual October tournament held in Park Forest . The U8's and U10's both won the tournament and brought home the championship trophies. The U9 boys and U10 girls both got to the finals but came up just short. Overall it was a great weekend and the club was represented well with the following team records: U8's went 3-0-1, U9's went 3-1, U10's went 3-1 and U10 girls went 2-2.

Youth Soccer Club Giants Join in AS Monaco FC Umbrella

10/08/2008 -- French club AS Monaco has built upon its current presence in the United States with the Chicago Magic Soccer Club by also forming an alliance with Rush Soccer. AS Monaco President Jerome de Bontin said, "When we first announced our alliance in the states, we stated then that the presence in the U.S. would not be symbolic. We now showcase the deep roots placed in all four corners of America with the addition of Rush Soccer." This allegiance is groundbreaking for all sides. "AS Monaco continues its commitment to youth with the U16 & U18 academies of the Chicago Magic and Rush Soccer programs," de Bontin said. "We now have presence in the West with Colorado Rush, Midwest with Chicago Magic, South with Texas Rush-AHFC and East with Virginia Rush. I am pleased to offer to the fans of AS Monaco FC , the members of its Academy, its players and its coaching staff, new opportunities to broaden the reach of the Club and their own both culturally and professionally."
