Congratulations are in order for our CMPSG U10 & U11 West Boys - your 2014 MLK Chicago Fire Cup Finalists will be competing for the CHAMPIONSHIP at Toyota Park April 5, 2014.
MLK Fire Cup Recap:
The U11 Boys rolled to first place in their group posting shutouts in all three games against CFJ North, Stavaru & Tigres. The semi-final opponent Warren UTD was able to break the deadlock on a failed clearance chance. The boys applied constant pressure and seemed to even the score when a shot rolled over the goal line. The goal was not given and undeterred, the boys continued to push numbers forward. With less than a minute to go, the boys earned their equalizer that would send the game straight to penalty kicks after regulation. Warren's first penalty shot was saved and Magic's first was converted. When Warren's second penalty shot was saved, it gave Magic a chance to win with a score as there are only three shooters in the tournament format. A brief celebration erupted as Magic's second shot ricocheted off the back bracing of the goal. However, once again, the boys were denied as the shot was ruled to have hit the crossbar. Warren's third penalty attempt would find it's way into the hands of the Magic goalkeeper as the boys would celebrate their birth into the final. The U11 Magic Boys will face first round opponent CFJ North who will be seeking revenge after losing to Magic 3-0.
The U10 Boys dug themselves into a bit of a hole as they allowed an early goal off a corner kick in their first match. Although the boys out chanced their opponent, the game would end in a 0-1 loss to Garfield Ridge UTD. Match two and three would would see high pressure and plenty of goals for the Magic as they shut out Lombard Firebirds 6-0 and FC Republic 2-0. A second place finish in group play would send the Magic boys against the other bracket's first place team finishers Tigres. It took little time for the boys to display their determination and dominance in a 3-0 semi-final victory which saw the Magic not only shut out their opponent, but only allow one shot all game. The U10 Magic Boys will have a chance to avenge their only tournament blemish against Garfield Ridge UTD in the final.

The Chicago Magic Soccer Club and the Lake Forest Soccer Association have announced the launch of the PSG Elite Girls program, an open top level group of player pools at U11, U12, and U13 ages in year one with the mission of providing an additional tier of instruction and play for members of the clubs, with tryouts prior to every season and initial play in NISL Premiership and national tournaments such as Surf Cup and Disney. A U10 Pre Elite age will also be likely initiated with lesser travel and training demands, depending on member feedback.
The program, with support from PSG Paris and the 2 clubs, will be provided with coaching and training at no charge. Participants will only be asked to cover league, tournament and uniforms at cost.
Training will be built on the 'Centers of Excellence' model and scheduled such that it does not interfere with their existing location team's training and play. Traveling and driving demands are to be kept within reason to balance school and soccer demands for younger players.
In conjunction with the new program, both clubs have dedicated themselves to a renewed effort and investment in their local girl's programs, the foundation for PSG Elite.
Specific details about the program will be distributed by program coaches to members regarding tryouts, fees, and level of commitment.
